Gear Review – Ascend FS12 Sit In Kayak

Name: Ryan DeLomg

Item reviewed: Ascend FS12 Sit In Kayak

Condition:  New

Number of trips used:  20-50 trips

How it performed:  Overall

- This has been a great boat for me as a beginner to kayak fishing. I purchased the boat from Bass Pro Shops in March when the new version first hit the floors. I have really enjoyed this as a new kayak fisherman. It is perfect for what i do as i need the long term storage for camping. I love this boat.

PROS
-The price was very reasonable i purchased it for under 600 bucks with a military discount. -Out of the box ready to fish (3 rod holders, anchor, anchor trolley, plenty of fishing storage). -Plenty of storage for camping or extended trips. -Comfortable seat (Removable for use as a camp seat) -Paddle insets in cockpit for quick paddle storage, and a paddle tie down on the side for longer storage.
-Foam already installed to aid in emergency flotation. -Watertight dashboard storage, cup holders.

CONS
-Heavy around 76 lbs with included gear. Once my fishing stuff is placed into the boat it is much heavier. For any long trips to the put in i would recommend a dolly.
-Not the easiest to turn due to the hull design, which makes it track straight. -The anchor trolley didn’t run the whole length of the boat which i didn’t like for river fishing. (I extended it once i had it on the river twice.)
