…The paragraph below was submitted in the nomination of “Boyscout” (Derek Porter to the real world) as RiverBassin.com’s river basser of the month. We couldn’t leave any of it off because it was so genuine and well written. Obviously Boyscout has touched this particular fisherman, but we all know he has touched many river bassers in the southeast including me and for that we want to thank him for sharing his enthusiasm for the sport with all of us! Congrats Derek, you deserve the honor!
“You don’t have a boat? No problem; you can hold down the forward seat in my Pelican. Need a tent? Mine’s big enough for both of us, and I’ll bring an extra just in case. And don’t worry about breakfast, I’ll have enough bacon and eggs for all.”
That was just the tip of the iceberg. How do you think he became “Boyscout?” The name was literally shoved on him by Continue Reading

…….. On Saturday, July 25th, I was fortunate to be able to participate in the 1st Annual SBA “Spot Fry” held at one of the SBA member’s property along side the Flint River just outside of Thomaston, Ga. The objective of the get together was to remove the allowable creel limit of “spotted bass” from the Flint River for each angler participating and following the days fishing, have a fish fry. The second objective of the gathering was to do a river cleanup, removing as much trash such as paper, bottles, cans, plastic bags and such to help return the river to its natural beauty. Fun was had by everyone that could attend and their reward was a dinner fit for a king! There was more than enough food for everyone! If you were unable to attend, you were missed and hopefully you can be at next years gathering. I put together a short video of the event. Hope you enjoy it.
The latest high definition RiverBassin TV episode continues with Part II, where the dramatic conclusion to BasserDrew and Deepstep’s day is revealed. They battle with more big smallmouth and encounter a few more surprises. All of this and more in the conclusion to “These Smallies are Legit, Don’t Quit.”
…….. Yesterday, I was able to fish with three of my good friends, RatherBfishin, Waderjon and Cajun on a local flow close to my home. It’s always so much fun to be able to share your weekend doing something you all love so much. That something is “River Bassin™”! I was able to capture some of that time on this video to share with you. Hope you enjoy it!
This is part I of the latest RiverBassin TV episode, where BasserDrew and Deepstep hit the water in search of river smallmouth bass – pound for pound strongest black bass there is! Let’s just say by the end of the day they have sore forearms and a lot of memories to share.
…….. Yesterday, Thursday, July 9, I found my way to south Georgia to fish the Ocmulgee River with two of my good friends, Rob (HotH2o) and his son Zach. Rob and I have been trying for quite a while now to get together and fish his local river. Due to the high water conditions and not to mention “muddy” conditions, it has been difficult getting our calendar synced. Rob is a school teacher, so he is out of school right now. Thursday was the magic day so we marked our calendars in ink! Below is a short video with some shots of Rob and Zach and some snap shots I took during the day. Rob caught a pretty big sturgeon and some redbreast and I think I ended up the day with about 6 largemouths. None went over a pound and a half. The fishing was tuff to say the least! We all had lots of fun, taking a break on a sandbar mid way through the float. Rob’s new Hobie Pro Angler is the first of its type I have ever seen in person. At the end of the float, I test drove it and really liked it. Hope you enjoy the short video. Click on the link below to watch:
Congratulations to Connecticut’s “Bassnut,” as she has been chosen River Basser of the Month for July. Bassnut was chosen for her unique fishing style and creative way of catching river bass and documenting it! She recently purchased a hat cam and put together a couple nice videos for the river bassin community on the forums. Click here to watch hat-cam video #1. One thing that makes this sport unique is the numerous kinds of rivers in the world and the numerous ways we choose to fish them. Bassnut represents this perfectly by her unique attitude and passion for the sport. Oh, and she can fish too! Congrats BN!
You too can nominate a friend to become the Basser of the Month by using this form. If chosen as Basser of the Month they will receive a RiverBassin.com hat (as soon as we get some new ones in) and get a special parking space at the front of the store, I mean, site, for the remainder of the month. Catching big fish or large numbers of fish is not the criteria we base our decisions on either. The River Basser of the Month should share the same enthusiasm, passion, stewardship and kindness that we like to promote here on RiverBassin.com.
The latest RiverBassinTV episode from Drew Gregory. In this episode Drew, SumterShoalieFan and Shoalieseeker join the GA DNR on a trip to electro-shock shoal bass and other species in order to learn how to tag them and release them back in the river. If it wasn’t for organizations like the DNR we wouldn’t have the great river fisheries we do today so it was a thrill to tag along with them and learn more about what they do on a day to day basis.
$1.00, $2.00 every little bit helps! The ocean is made up of many small drops of water and we appreciate your contribution however small, which gets put toward our site operations cost as well as upgrades throughout the year.
