“Swim baits are becoming a greatly used bait in the fishing world and the reason for this is simply because they CATCH FISH. But, people tend to over look them for many reasons. The most common excuse I hear is ‘they are too big’ or ‘the cost way too much’ and both are not true. Yes, some swim baits reach the $50 range but, there are many more swim baits in lower range of $7 to $25. Another thing that many people do not realize is there are the many different types of swim baits; hard baits, soft baits, and twitch baits are the most common. But, there are also ‘swim baits’ that sport a bill. In this week’s tip I am going to discuss the different types and sizes of swim baits more than I am going to discuss the way to use them. Blue Moon (Susanne) and I took our first vacation in four years. It was long overdue and much needed. We hit the road around 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 16th and headed to Atlanta to stay and visit with some special friends. Then we arrived Friday afternoon in Charlotte, NC to spend the weekend with our oldest son and his girlfriend’s family. After leaving Charlotte on Sunday evening we made the drive over the Appalachian Mountains to Pigeon Forge, TN. Of course, after doing the usual sight-seeing, attraction visits and eating, we began scouting out trout streams in the Smokey Mountains. We found several promising places to wade and fish for rainbow, brook and brown trout. That will be a trip in the future! Continue Reading

I have been pretty lucky so far in my riverbassin’ and have only lost, to the river, a few cheap rods, a paddle of midranged price, and a leatherman. Well, the leatherman bothered me because it was once owned by a recently deceased mentor of mine who taught me a lot about life, fishing, and how you should treat fellow mankkind. His name was Skip Mundy and he died unfortunatelly of complications, mainly pnuemonia, from cancer. He was only 58 I believe. But he had the spirit of a man twice his age…always up at 3 a.m. bouncing and full of life. Was never in a bad mood once that I saw. We met through the Ft. Benning Bass Club which I joined when I was sixteen. I will turn 30 in november. Continue Reading
“I like to break out the frog on many occasions: weeds, no weeds, morning, and night. The frog is just a versatile lure that can be used at anytime of the day and any time of the year. But the great thing about a frog is that frogs are big fish lures! It is that simple; it is a big fish lure because it is a large profile lure that takes a big mouth to eat. So this tip is going to focus on many aspects of the frog, including: type, action, color, rigging, and fishing. Continue Reading
….Congratulations to Moorefish5 (Robert Moore) for accomplishing his 1st river mission. Robert’s mission was accomplished on a part of the river he had never fished before! Not bad….not bad at all. Congratulations Robert!
Mission Accomplished:Four Bass Slam – I floated the upper Chattahoochee River for the first time and was able to catch four different species of bass on topwater and soft plastics. This was a beautiful stretch of river that I had zero expectations on and it has turned into one of my favorite floats.
….Congratulations to Striperfisherman (Brandon Payne) for accomplishing his 1st river mission. The river mission he has successfully completed is probably one of my favorites. Taking a youngster out on the river to catch some fish. It not only gives that young person a life long memory but the pleasure it gives the seasoned riverbasser by providing that opportunity is indescribable. My hat goes off to you Brandon!
Mission Accomplished: Young River Basser’s Yoda– I took my little nephew fishing because he has been wanting to go for a while. His dad never has time to take him so I told him I would take him out and help him catch a couple of fish. We didn’t get many big ones but he had a great time and caught a couple smaller fish! Now all he wants to do is fish! I guess he has officially been bit by the fishing bug so I guess I did my job!!
Blackwater and I set out to float the north Chattahoochee. Had intended on using the outfitter to provide a shuttle, but upon arrival found out that they were not open. However, we did find a gentleman at the local gas station to give us a ride back to the put in after leaving our vehicle downstream. This float trip included beautiful scenery, a kayak full of water, and catching many species of fish. Enjoy!
….Congratulations to RedHeron (Lance Coley) for accomplishing another river mission. Catching one fish can be difficult at times but catching three fish on three consecutive casts is almost unheard of! Well, the impossible is possible, especially when RedHeron sets his mind to it. Congratulations Lance on another great accomplishment!
Mission Accomplished: Catch 33 –  Catch at least three bass in a row on consecutive casts. On the mission complete form simply submit pictures of different fish with same background to at least prove they were caught in the same spot.
….Congratulations to RedHeron (Lance Coley) for accomplishing one of the most difficult river missions. As we all know, RedHeron travels on the job he has and this gives him many opportunities to fish a lot of different streams and rivers. Accomplishing this mission however was no easy task! It took many hours of fishing and planning how to accomplish this mission I’m sure. Congratulation Lance on this major accomplishment! We all knew you could do it!
Mission Accomplished:RiverSlam Pro– Catch all 8 species of black bass in one year but you must reach the following length limits to be given pro status, and you must get photos of the fish on a measuring device.
$1.00, $2.00 every little bit helps! The ocean is made up of many small drops of water and we appreciate your contribution however small, which gets put toward our site operations cost as well as upgrades throughout the year.
