….Congrats all around to “ML” from Alabama (or Matthew to his parents), for being selected as the River Basser of the Month for February 2010! Most of us have spent the last few weeks pining away for spring, Matt has been out there floating the Alabama rivers and showing all of us with snow on our porches just what we’ve been missing! You’ve got to be impressed by that kind of dedication, and if you’re not then hop on over to the Alabama forum and take a look at his pictures and those sure will! Matt also doesn’t mind sharing his stories in the forum. It’s this kind of dedication to the sport and willingness to help out that have made Matt our newest Basser of the Month
You too can nominate a friend to become the Basser of the Month by using this form. If chosen as Basser of the Month they will receive a special parking space at the front of the store, I mean, site, for the remainder of the month. Catching big fish or large numbers of fish is not the criteria we base our decisions on either. The River Basser of the Month should share the same enthusiasm, passion, stewardship and kindness that we like to promote here on RiverBassin.com.

…Congratulations to Blake Condo (just “Blake” on the forums) from Tennessee, as he has been chosen River Basser of the month for January 2010. This was an easy decision because Blake may very well be one of the most helpful river bassers I know. When someone asks a question on the forums, whether the topic has already been covered or not, Blake is right there to assist with his advice – which is good by the way! Blake has been on rivers for quite some time now and knows a thing or two about them since his full time job requires him to be on them quite often. The kind of helpful information sharing that Blake demonstrates is exactly one of the purposes of this site, so thanks for being such a good example and helping make this site what it is, Blake!

…Congratulations to Pennsylvania’s “DadTB” (Tom), as he has been chosen River Basser of the Month for December. Yes, even though Tom lives in Pennsylvania and it gets cold in the winter, it doesn’t slow Tom down! He mostly takes trips on the famed Susquehenna River with friends and family and his positive and detailed reports on the Pennsylvania forum are a joy to read. He is always willing to take kids on the river to share his passion with them so that they can see the beauty that is river bassin. RiverBassin.com thinks that is totally boss Tom, and is exactly what this site and the people who are on it are all about! You can also see more of his reports on his personal blog here. Thanks for your contributions to the site and keep up the great work in your neck of river bassin water!

…Congratulations to Louisiana’s “LSUFlyfishing,” Blake Leblanc, as he has been chosen River Basser of the Month for November. Blake recently became the first ever RiverBassin.com member to catch a state record, submit it and become officially recognized by his state as the record holder. And, what is even crazier is that the guy called his shot! He said he was going to do it, and he did! If you wan to see more about this, simply click here to read the forum post about his record spotted bass. RiverBassin.com would like to extend a big congratulations to Blake for his accomplishment and we’re proud to have him aboard. Aside from the record he is a stand up guy who has posted numerous informative trip reports that all the river bassin community has enjoyed and learned from.

…Congratulations to Louisiana’s Barret B. as he has been chosen River Basser of the Month for October. Barret has been on the radar of the RiverBassin.com staff for a while with his numerous enthusiastic posts on both the Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida forums. In the reports you will notice his energy for the sport and his unique, creative way of posting reports that are more than just fish, but scenery as well. It really is all the other stuff besides the fish that makes river bassin unique and Barret is just one of those guys that just gets it. If anyone has a question on the forums and Barret knows the answer you can bet he’ll chime in to help any fellow river basser out. That’s just the kind of guy he is. He also has demonstrated a sense
of conservation and river stewardship by bringing a trash bag and cleaning up around river access points. Again, he just gets what we’re all about and river bassin is proud to have another quality fisherman, outdoorsmen and just plain ol good guy on this site.
Aside from all of that he demonstrates how well rounded he is by fishing out of whatever it takes for that particular water – kayaks, jon-boat, flats boat, or even just wading the streams with his two feet! He also gets out and catches some nice fish in the salt as well! Congrats again Barret!

…Congratulations to South Carolina’s Danny Bell (Stumphumper) as he has been chosen River Basser of the Month for September. Danny was chosen for his amazing generosity at the most recent River Bassin Rodeo (Georgia Summer Slam). He not only came from the furthest distance away (Charleston, SC) but brought all the fresh seafood and other equipment needed to make the event a truly memorable one. He cooked up some of the best seafood you have ever had too! On top of that he has been a great resource to the forums and is always willing to help anyone with any question or project. In conclusion, he simply understands what makes this sport great and just “gets it,” and that is what Continue Reading

…The paragraph below was submitted in the nomination of “Boyscout” (Derek Porter to the real world) as RiverBassin.com’s river basser of the month. We couldn’t leave any of it off because it was so genuine and well written. Obviously Boyscout has touched this particular fisherman, but we all know he has touched many river bassers in the southeast including me and for that we want to thank him for sharing his enthusiasm for the sport with all of us! Congrats Derek, you deserve the honor!
“You don’t have a boat? No problem; you can hold down the forward seat in my Pelican. Need a tent? Mine’s big enough for both of us, and I’ll bring an extra just in case. And don’t worry about breakfast, I’ll have enough bacon and eggs for all.”
That was just the tip of the iceberg. How do you think he became “Boyscout?” The name was literally shoved on him by Continue Reading

Congratulations to Connecticut’s “Bassnut,” as she has been chosen River Basser of the Month for July. Bassnut was chosen for her unique fishing style and creative way of catching river bass and documenting it! She recently purchased a hat cam and put together a couple nice videos for the river bassin community on the forums. Click here to watch hat-cam video #1. One thing that makes this sport unique is the numerous kinds of rivers in the world and the numerous ways we choose to fish them. Bassnut represents this perfectly by her unique attitude and passion for the sport. Oh, and she can fish too! Congrats BN!

Congratulations to “smfisher,” Alan Richie, who is RiverBassin.com’s basser of the month for June 2009. Smfisher has been a guy that has always been drawn to river fishing and the challenge fishing the flows have over still water. He has promoted the sport of river fishing most of his life through word of mouth and taking people fishing. He also has been working hard to educate people to practice catch and release in order to keep a viable fishing resource in Kentucky.
The nominators are kept anonymous but this is what a fellow river basser had to say about smfisher in a recent nomination submission.
“While I have only known him for a relatively short time I have found him to be a true mentor. He is selfless in opening the world of fly fishing up to others. As well he is a true Continue Reading

I have been fishing with RatherBfishin (Glen) now for about 3 years. He is one of the most enthusiastic river fisherman I have had the opportunity to fish with and is always looking to improve his river fishing skills. In the beginning, RatherBfishin was literally a novice (rookie) and everything about fishing a Continue Reading
