My ten year old grandson Hunter and I were rewrapping our drag chains, used to slow our canoes for fishing purposes, with duct tape and I had mine nice & shiny with the high grade 3M brand tape when I remembered an event that I thought would be of interest to Hunter, so I thought I would share it with you as I shared it with him.
While carefully wrapping my chain, I begin by setting the stage, I was on the Upper Ocmulgee, far down the Upper Ocmulgee, if that makes sense, let’s say above Macon but below Jackson, somewhere in there. I was catching mostly largemouth throwing a magnum broke back Rebel, doing pretty good I thought, then my drag chain hung up. Read the full story

This is a video of me kayak fishing with two of my Riverbassin.com friends on one of our favorite rivers in Georgia. The weather was hot…hot…hot this day but the bass were tearing em up!!! All three of us caught around 60 fish together!! Wooooooooooo! I had just viewed a video the night before of Kevin VanDam demonstrating how he fishes the “swimming jig”. I had never fished this type of bait before but will now!!! It was a killer!

Persistence, you wanna know what persistence is? Well, just take a good look at this young riverbasser. We all call her Smiley! Her mom and dad and husband probably call her Rachael. Fairly new at riverbassin™ out of a kayak and for that matter fairly new to bass fishing too, Rachael has come to love riverbassin™ almost as much as her better half, Jason (Lowhybred09). Competing in her very first Riverbassin.com tournament competition just weeks ago, Rachael has exhibited the true enthusiasm and love for chasing the largemouth, shoal and spotted bass we all know so well. Rachael has constantly been learning about the habits and little tricks of the trade to make herself a better fisherwoman. She’s definately doing a great job!! Wanna see what the payback is for persistence??? Watch this short video and find out!!!

…..The “Infamous Smith Shoals” on the Ocmulgee River can sometimes be intimidating to even the seasoned kayak angler. I have personally kayaked these shoals on numerous occasions and it seems to always be different each time I experience it. Join me in my kayak ride down them once again…….

…..Do you love to fish out of your kayak on the river with your friends? I certainly do, especially when it’s fishing for one of Georgia’s beautiful species of bass called the “shoal bass”. Ride along with me and enjoy me and my friend in all the fun!

….. The day before yesterday I gave an old acquaintance of mine a call on the phone to find out if he would like to go fishing on one of our favorite rivers for some shoal bass. Of course his answer was an emphatic “YES”. I have known Dennis (Dennis the Fish Menace) for about 2 years but we have never got our schedules synchronized so we were able to fish together. We both met at the river bright and early the next morning ready to tackle some of Georgia’s beautiful “shoalies”. The day started out with Dennis striking gold with a beautiful 4lb. 01oz. shoalie monstor! That was just a preview of what was to follow during the day. The morning was sort of slow with not much action. I thought…… “I sure hope this is not an indication what’s in store for us today!” Around lunch time we pulled over and had ourselves something to eat and discussed the morning and what our plans were for the afternoon. Still optimistic, I started fishing different baits using different methods to entice them to bite. Still nothing!!! Shortly after lunch, I heard Dennis yell out……..”BIG FISH ON!!!”. I looked around and Dennis was being towed toward the nearest bank!!!! WOW!!!!! He sho nuff had a BIGUN!!!! Dennis finally brought this huge fish to the side of his yak (on the side I couldn’t see) and was attempting to lip her. Dennis yelled out…”OH NO!!!! SHE GOT OFF!!!” Anyway, that was just the precursor to the rest of the day. Dennis was kind enough to share with me what his “Secret Weapon” was and I couldn’t tie it on quick enough!!! The rest of the story follows in the short video. Hope you enjoy!

…….. Yesterday, Thursday, July 9, I found my way to south Georgia to fish the Ocmulgee River with two of my good friends, Rob (HotH2o) and his son Zach. Rob and I have been trying for quite a while now to get together and fish his local river. Due to the high water conditions and not to mention “muddy” conditions, it has been difficult getting our calendar synced. Rob is a school teacher, so he is out of school right now. Thursday was the magic day so we marked our calendars in ink! Below is a short video with some shots of Rob and Zach and some snap shots I took during the day. Rob caught a pretty big sturgeon and some redbreast and I think I ended up the day with about 6 largemouths. None went over a pound and a half. The fishing was tuff to say the least! We all had lots of fun, taking a break on a sandbar mid way through the float. Rob’s new Hobie Pro Angler is the first of its type I have ever seen in person. At the end of the float, I test drove it and really liked it. Hope you enjoy the short video. Click on the link below to watch:

This past weekend I was called on to host three fine gentlemen from the state of South Carolina on some of our Georgia rivers. Their earlier plans got canceled because of the recent heavy rains in their home state, causing their rivers to be “blown out”. This was an excellent opportunity for me to meet some of my fellow “Riverbassin.com” friends I had yet to meet. The “invaders” were Boyscout (Derek), TygerRiverWalker (Rich), Redfishguide (Jack) and Rich’s dog (Tucker). Derek and I talked on the phone swapping information about the newly planned trip to Georgia like where and when we would meet up to do the shuttle etc. Our Friday morning started out with us meeting at MAC’s Grill in Thomaston to eat a hearty breakfast (grits, eggs, homemade sausage and biscuits). Ummmmmm good!!!! Their excitement level was high and the anticipation of catching some of Georgia’s Shoal Bass was through the roof.
On day #1 we fished the Flint River which is a site for sore eyes and on day #2 we fished the Ocmulgee River which is one of my favorites! Come along with us and share in our adventure! Hopefully you will enjoy yourselves as much as we did! If the opportunity to host some of your Riverbassin.com friends ever presents itself, you need to take advantage of it. The rewards of new friends and the fishing experience together will leave you with life long memories.
